Hi! I'm Freshwater Freddie, Western Carolina Regional Sewer Authority’s Public Education Mascot. My job is to teach you how to protect the Upstate's waterways. When I was a tadpole, my parents had a hard time trying to decide what to name me. So, they asked Western Carolina to help!

Western Carolina had a "Name That Frog" contest. Students from all over Greenville County were asked to send in the name that they thought would be perfect for me! Over 160 students and classes submitted names, and a first grade class from Hollis Academy won! They decided to name me Freshwater Freddie!

Since they did such a good job of coming up with my name, Western Carolina invited the Hollis Academy students to visit one of our treatment facilities and receive an award. They went on a tour and participated in a wildlife demonstration! Then, they got to celebrate my birthday with me!

Now, I just sit around my lily pad trying to come up with ways to teach you about the importance of clean water, recycling, and wastewater treatment. As you know, I live around water most of the time, and its hard for me to keep the water clean all by myself. That’s why I would like you to help me! Check out my Water Guide and see what kinds of things you can do to help. It also has lots of games and experiments for you to try at home!

Also, if you like to color, you can print out my special coloring page and get creative. Once you have completed your masterpiece, I would love to see it. Please mail it to Western Carolina at the following address:

I'll see you at the next river sweep!
